Faith and Americanism

A quick commentary on what happened at the capitol Wednesday.  Church, we have to remember where our allegiance needs to be.  Wednesday and this summer show us that we cannot put our faith in a political party.  Our allegiance needs to be to God first.  As a church, we need to show and teach unity and healing.  As individuals, we cannot let our personal politics EVER overshadow our connection in Christ and our mission as Christians.

I watched a great video discussion from the Christian Chronicle that Wednesday evening. A minister made this comment that really struck me.  “Jesus chose Matthew who worked for the Government and Simon the Zealot whose major goal was to overthrow the government to both be Apostles in his inner circle.  I can only imagine the discussions around the campfire at night.  However, they both realized they now had a much bigger mission in life that drew them together despite their differences.” What a wonderful reminder of what we are supposed to be about.

Our American world may be spinning out of control; but our God is not, His Kingdom is not, and our mission is not. Let us show love and respect to those who differ from us. Let us show God’s love to a world that needs to hear of healing, grace, hope and so much more that Christianity can offer them.
